Innovation projects

The Plant Breeding Strategy 2050 has shown that there is a gap in the implementation of new research results in practical plant breeding. In these areas, breeding companies in Switzerland often lack the necessary infrastructure, know-how and innovative strength. The aim of “Projekten zur Förderung von Innovation in der Pflanzenzüchtung” is to close this gap in Switzerland's mostly small plant breeding programs. To this end, Swiss breeders will be efficiently and competently supported in the implementation of results from applied research - for example in the agronomic and genetic characterization of their breeding material (phenotyping, genotyping) and in the management and use of this data in the breeding program (databases, analysis, bioinformatics, biostatistics) as part of innovation projects. The Swiss plant breeding center and the innovation projects themselves are funded by the Swiss Federal Office for Agriculture.
