NIRS

  • Project title: Development of near infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) calibrations for the analysis of corn-bean quantity on a mobile harvester
  • Project acronym: NIRS
  • Applicants: Strigens, Alexander (maize breeding, Delley Samen und Pflanzen AG), Camp, Karl-Heinz (Delley Samen und Pflanzen AG)
  • Partners: Sativa Rheinau GmbH
  • Runtime : 03.2024 – 12.2026

Summary

The aim of the project is to calibrate the NIRS device for dry matter, protein and starch contents of maize-bean mixtures. The spectroscopic procedure of the NIRS method has already found application in various specialized fields and is particularly used due to its rapid and non-destructive mode of operation. The NIRS calibration on the mobile harvester should make it possible to estimate the dry matter of the harvested crop as well as the nitrogen and starch content of the respective maize-bean mixture plots quickly and during the harvesting process. The utilization of a NIRS device is expected to result in a reduction in the time, materials, energy and, consequently, costs involved.
