FLUORES

  • Project title: Utilizing the fluorescence of seedling roots for the maintenance of species stability in ryegrass
  • Project acronym: FLUORES
  • Applicants: Ochsenbein Christian (Delley Samen und Pflanzen AG), Grieder Christoph (Agroscope)
  • Partner: Swiss Plant Breeding Center
  • Runtime: 01.01.2024 – 31.12.2025

Summary

Seedling root fluorescence (SRF) under UV light is an established method in seed purity analysis to detect contamination of Lolium perenne (Lp, non-fluorescent) with Lolium multiflorum (Lm, fluorescent). The aim of the project FLUORES is to test whether SRF is suitable for (conservation) breeding and it can be adapted to detect hybridizations with Lm within Lp breeding material. This simple and fast method could be used to guarantee the species purity of Lp varieties.
