BroSI

  • Project title: Broccoli self-incompatibility
  • Project acronym: BroSI
  • Applicants: Zschunke Amadeus (Sativa Rheinau AG), Gruner Paul (Breeder, Sativa Rheinau AG).
  • Partenaires: Swiss Plant Breeding Center (SPBC)
  • Duration : 06.2024 – 08.2025

Summary

The use of either self-fertile or self-incompatible genotypes is crucial for broccoli breeding. Until now, it has only been possible to differentiate between different self-incompatibility (SI) alleles through complex crossbreeding, which is a very time-consuming method, especially when crossing new varieties. In this project, genotypes are to be analyzed for existing SI or self-fertility (SF) alleles using molecular methods and thus provide a tool for determining SI alleles in the future.
