MoMABS

  • Project title: Morphological Marker Assisted Breeding and Selection (MoMABS) in peaches
  • Project acronym: MoMABS
  • Applicants: Schmid, Andi (Owner of the company Realisation Schmid)
  • Partner: Zurich University of Applied Sciences (ZHAW), Swiss Plant Breeding Center (SPBC)
  • Runtime: 01.11.2023 – 31.12.2026

Summary

This project, which is aimed at breeding swiss peach specialties, aims to use interdisciplinary work to participate in the latest technologies. Morphological markers, linked to resistance against the five most important peach pathogens (Podosphaera pannosa var. Persicae Leucostoma persoonii, Taphrina deformans, Monilia Monilinia sp., Myzus persicae) are to be detected by combining established and new technologies (field assessments, marker assisted selection, artificial intelligence). In this way: 1. crossing partners should be selected more quickly and reliably based on morphological markers; 2. the selection of the seedlings resulting from the crosses should be rationalized.
